I have just joined the committee of CDRC being a firm believer in that you get out what you put in.

I started riding late, about 9 years ago to keep my daughter company in her lessons, what an expensive mistake that was! I have had my current horse, Hazza - a 16.2 Danish Warmblood - for 2 1/2 years. He is everything I wanted from a horse, perfect temperament, a pleasure to be around and a pleasure to take anywhere. It was only after getting Hazza that i found out that fun rides could be fun.

We started off doing dressage in the belief that it was safer yet my only fall from Hazza (so far) has been warming up for a dressage competition. We are currently graded BD Elementary ( by 1 point ! )

Not being the most confident of jumpers I decided to have a go over some small XC fences about 18 months ago, another BIG mistake!.

Hazza loved jumping so we started doing small Hunter Trials which became larger Hunter Trials which became One Day Events and I love it. For a combination new to eventing we have had a good start and won our first competition recently and represented CDRC at the Area competition in June 2007. The next step is to take part in some BE Intro classes before I get to old to do it. As for the dressage, well only if part of a One Day Event! Nicola Norfolk
Secretary & Website Manager

Have been a member for about two years (I think, memory fails me now and again) and on the committee for most of that time. I took on the job of Secretary about two years ago.

Having had a baby boy, Morgan, in December 2006 the pony has had a few months doing nothing but trashing fencing. We are now back on board and both desperately trying to get fit enough to get out and about a bit more, hopefully better behaved this time round.

Megan Morgan
Membership Secretary
ODE Team Manager

My riding experience started out as a weekly excursion to the local riding stables at 16; at 26 I was given a very sweet but ancient thoroughbred, who taught me a great deal, mostly about lameness, unintentional dismounts and napping, but I never looked back.

In my thirties I had the great fortune to meet Henry. Henry was 10, but had not come into work until he was 9, he was chestnut (preferred bay), 15 3hh (wanted 16 2hh) was very green (needed schoolmaster).

However 9 years and countless training sessions with Sharon Thomas later, we have a great partnership completing our personal goal of competing at Pre Novice British Eventing, qualifying for the BRC National Dressage Championships in 2006 and even having a go at Quadrille at Addington!

At 19, I feel I can allow Henry to take it a bit easier, but he doesn’t appear to agree with me as we’re still out there scampering around the Intro courses and representing our club in any team that will have us!

I joined the committee to run the ODE teams, and hopefully spread a bit of support and enthusiasm to encourage anyone who is vaguely interested to come and have a go!

Nichole Baker
Treasurer and Newsletter Editor

Have been a club member for nearly 20 years and a committee member for what feels like almost that many but actually isn’t.

Have done everything in my time and am now concentrating on dressage with William who is nearly 9 and was once 15.1hh (those were the days!) - & who, when he’s not being a complete a***e, is absolutely fabulous!

I am normally attended by Winston my 3 legged Labrador who is guaranteed to be found begging at the nearest food outlet!

Always desperate for bits to go in the newsletter, please, please, please (is this where the dog got his bad habits from?)

Jo Elliott
Dressage Team Manager

Hi, I'm Jo and have rejoined the committee after several years out to complete a home study course in Land Law for work rather than pleasure!

I started riding quite late in life at 21, and bought Monty, a 17.2 school master, after several good years, I moved on to Paddy a 17.2 ex-hunter, but he never really ralied to the world of dressage, showjuming or competion generally, but he has taught me to fall off with style, and I had masses of fun with him and wouldn't have been without him.

I'm now riding Calypso (foto), a nine year old, 16.2, who I loan from Sian Evans, he is much more oblidging and we compete regularly in the club dressage competions. We also do some showjump training, just for fun, we don't compete.

Sian Evans
Hunter Trials Team Manager

Sian is 54 years old, teaches riding for the disabled & Pony Club and competes at Intro and Pre Novice eventing.

Sian now has three horses at home with her partner Rob Phelps (Olympic Pentathlete).

Sian is willing to help with all levels of Riding Club activities and horse welfare.

Have been a member of Cheltenham Riding Club for many years - compete in all disciplines - eventing being my favourite pastime.

I am very lucky to have my two horses at home - Ted is 12, an ex flat racehorse and has been with me for 5 years, coming straight from the track and then enjoyed himself eventing at pre-novice.

Katie Holt is now riding Ted to enable me to spend more time with my second horse. Jay is 6 years old, a home bred foal (was meant to be a 15.2hh coloured filly - but turned out as a brown colt that just kept growing) and is just starting his eventing career - so watch this space!!!

Geof Robins
Training

The non-riding half of the Geof and Jennie partnership. I double up as groom, estate manager and general dogsbody. I take it on the chin when the job goes wrong and buy the bubbly when it goes well.

Hopefully, as a committee member, I contribute towards the smooth running of the club and provide useful ideas for the interest of all.

Sue Owen
Committee Member
Having ridden as a child took it up again at 50 and with a borrowed horse joined Cheltenham Riding Club in 1993. Had lots of fun, learnt to ride and made many friends, started organizing training for the club in 1995 and became chairman in 2000. Then came a couple of years as secretary and as chairman and now back as a committee member.

Now retired from an office job, so time enough to do club things and ride and compete Walter, an Irish cob that turns a hoof to most things.
